What does Postmodernist mean?

On one level, postmodern is a word used to describe major changes in the underlying ways people think — especially the way people view truth and reality. Postmodern is a term of contrast which implies modern. But before modern, there was pre-modern. To understand postmodern, it helps to consider the main differences in the way each of the three “moderns” relate to truth and reality

Why is the Lego movie a postmodernist film?

The Lego movie is a postmodernist film because it brings in factors of new and old mixing in the old and new bringing a nostalgic feel to it but with the newest things included in it for example in the movie you have all the different characters but a few from older years take Benny for example a 1980's spaceman that adults of the 80's may remember also batman a character from 1960 but kids of today know who he is bringing in a modern feel as well as some nostalgia and brand new feel to the movie

Wk 2:

There are three sections of the family target audience: kids who like Lego; parents of kids who used to play with Lego themselves; young cinema goers.

Explain how The Lego Movie appeals to each of them using the following areas:

Characters:
The characters in the Lego movie relates to all 3 sections of the family target audience because they are not all new characters that the parents and the older generation haven't heard of before because for example 80's kids will recognise that Benny the spaceman is in the film along with a few others that adults will remember

Narrative:

The narrative in the Lego movie relates to all 3 sections of the family target audience because the way the movie has been sequenced the tale of events haven't really changed to a Lego movie from 10 years ago a hero is discovered he or she goes on some quest to put a stop to a bad guys plan they succeed and everyone loves them for one reason or another

Settings:
The settings in the Lego movie relate to all 3 sections of the family target audience because the settings haven't evolved into anything drastically different because its still set in a city where predominately set in cartoon/animated movies which people of the older generation will remember from when they used to watch films in that day and age

Themes:
The themes in the Lego movie relate to all 3 sections of the family target audience because the themes relate to various other things for example Benny sporting space and rocket ships for his theme which the adults and older people will remember and one that younger cinema goers will know would be unikitty because of her bright colours and happy attitude

What methods did they use to promote the Lego Movie and how did it target the different parts of the target audience?

The Lego movie was a big success because of the amount of advertising that went in to make sure everyone knew what this film will be about and when people can go to the cinema and watch this movie and because this is the 21st century the top people of the advertising department made the great idea to promote the Lego movie over social media's Facebook Instagram Snap Chat Twitter and every website that people use and would see this advertised on they also did a few adverts on TV where the main point of the ad was to promote the film and to get people interested the posters they made were very creative as well besides doing the one big generic poster they made ones for individual characters where they would have the character and which famous person was playing that character in the film which was used in a good way which brought the film more attention which then leads on to the merchandise they made to run along side the film mugs,T-shirts,hats,bags and even a game which was an even bigger selling point because people who enjoyed the movie would go out and then buy the game then play that or visa versa people who like the game would then go watch the film which appeals to a larger audience generating more interest

WK 3:

Explain why the tv advertising campaign for the lego movie was so successful
the TV campaign for the Lego movie was a huge success because they constructed them in many ways that would appeal to all members of the target audience eg parents kids teens by picking out the key basics of how to make something successful 1 a meaningful message so that all people will be able to interpret what the message is they are trying to send out 2 bring in recognisable faces that people know either celebrities or well known and respected people another key thing was timing what time they would put the advert on TV and what channels which lead to it being on in the morning and around 5 o'clock in the evening so kids teen and adults will all see.
What is market synergy
Synergy in marketing is when two marketing strategies are combined in an attempt to achieve a greater impact. This approach is done with the perception that one marketing strategy would otherwise yield less impact if used alone.

Explain how Lego used synergy to promote the Lego movie
Lego used Market synergy to help promote the film by along side the hype of the film they released a variety of merchandise so people would buy that then go and watch the film because of seeing a t-shirt or a bag with a character from the movie on and also wearing the merchandise then lets other people out in public know then they might go and buy some and watch the movie.
Explain why a film company would want to release a video game to tie in with the movie
The reason Lego did this was to appeal to a larger audience and get in with the game industry to try and generate more interest with the film because not everyone watches TV so to release a game along side the film would help them bring in more people because people who spend hours playing the game until 100% completion would then be so excited to watch the film and visa versa people who enjoyed watching the movie would then love to get themselves a copy of the game and play through it which then makes Lego successful ( and a lot of money )

Uses and Gratification theory Blamer and Katz

1 Entertainment offers distraction from the world because its set in many lego worlds shown by the cover staring loads of lego people

2 Personal identity helps us consider who we are what ideas and values we identify with which we can see emmet in the cover is surrounded by people he meets

3 Relationships we find things we can share and discuss with others this is shown

4 Information new information we want to know or take pleasure in knowing they hide a lot of background information by jumbaling all these characters into the front cover hiding things for you to find out

Analyse how the uses and gratifications of the lego movie video game are reflected in the cover?
The lego movie video game cover is a variation of all 4 uses and gratification of Blamer and Katz theory by doing all the things a video game cover does trying to attract you to buy it. The cover offers a load of information Characters setting Good vs Evil and sets the scene for what the game will consist of. Being a lego game it also offers a sense of adventure or a quest that the main characters on the front will go on and be challenged by at some point in the game. It also offers a sense of personal identity like what sort of person are you? A Builder An adventurer or someone to scared to show who they really are. It also gives you time while playing the game to form some sort of bond/relationship with the characters you get to experience meet and play as giving you a better meaning of the game and the people you play as.

Wk 5:
The genre coventions for the lego movie film poster are adventure because of the quest that emmet goes on in order to save the lego universe from mr business its also about friendship and the way emmet meets his new friends to find his true self

how does it appeal to the target audience, the main title of the film is there to display whats its called a nice simple effective movie title bringing joy and hope to the people going to watch it the tag line of the story of a nobody who saved everybody brings along a rather powerful message in the fact of all these people who don't know him are about to thank him for the rest of their lives for what he did to save himself and all of them as well ,the characters are placed in a v formation so you can see who's there and what they do it also implies the rule of more important characters at the front and less important at the back or good guys at the front and bad guys at the back the setting also is rather fitting in the main place the main character grew up and lives in also the main scene of the battle ground where lord business trys to concur the world

Stereotypes within the lego movie:
Emmet you'd look at him and go typical male character he's wearing blue and has a construction worker job that's the type of stereotyping that you want you to make take wyldstyle for example she's got rather typical women lips she's wearing makeup and is wearing pink on her clothes and in her hair as well.
Then we look at lord business straight away you can tell he's going to be the main bad guy with his bitter expression and the fact he's wearing armour suggests he likes a fight or just wears it for fun.
Then moving on to Benny he's obviously living in the 80's when spaceships were cool again typical male wearing a blue space suit with a funny/almost smug expression on his face meaning he's
a fun loving floating spaceman.
Batman he's gonna be the second in command the one who thinks he's big guns when he ends up giving it to emmet on a plate he looks kinda annoyed in his expression and looks like he's just got off the set of a fight scene in a tom cruse film.

Vitruvius the weird spiritual wizard bloke who gives emmet all the information about the proficy and he's the special and thats authority
