STATEMENT OF INTENT

I am creating a magazine aimed at kids aged 11-14, I have themed it around dogs as kids this age are often getting their first pets to look after. This magazine is going to teach them how to train their dogs, what is safe and unsafe for their pups, and random fun facts that may come in helpful!
I have kept the colour scheme to one a child this age would be hooked into, blues/purples etc, with splashes of colour amongst to keep it vibrant, as  they are calming colours that compliment the excitement the target audience will be feeling when they see the dogs. However, the front cover will have a range of colours, as all these different aspects will excite the children, drawing them into the magazine making them want to buy it.
The main image on the front will be of a dog, preferably a Jack Russel, sat right centre of the page. The dog will likely be looking very excited – hopefully radiating onto the target audience as well, making them want a dog and the magazine. The masthead will be in purple, sat right above the dogs head in block capitals to stand out nicely. Whilst the cover lines will be much smaller, scattered around the dog to create this organised chaos, like inside of a 11-13 year olds head. They will all be different colours to make the magazine once again stand out amongst the rest. There will be a mix between illustrated, and non illustrated pictures. To show the livelihood of the dogs and to see them in different elements.
I will show this magazine is educational to the children as it’ll have step by step fun interactive instructions for the target audience to follow, whilst also being informed on the dangers they could be getting their dogs into if not safe, but in a friendly fun way! As this is the most effective way to draw them in whilst keeping them and their pup happy.

  1. Great first draft - I would just add in where you're following codes and conventions.
